A Commitment to Women in Engineering
The percentage of the SEAS undergraduate student body who are women is almost double the national average.
That figure shows our commitment to welcoming women to the engineering fields. We also welcome you to join us in our efforts to recruit and retain more women engineering students. Read on to learn more.
SEAS Center for Women in Engineering
The SEAS Center for Women in Engineering launched in April 2019 and is dedicated to providing all of the stakeholders in SEAS–students, faculty, staff and alumnae–with the information and skills to become the best engineers they can be.
Who we are
The Center comprises SEAS faculty, staff, students, and alumni who are dedicated to empowering women to overcome the challenges they face in engineering.
Dr. Rachelle Heller, professor emeritus of computer science, directs the Center and is assisted in the day-to-day operations by Ms. Taly Walsh. An internal and an external advisory board guide the Center’s programming.
What we do
The Center is working to develop programming and activities for students, faculty, staff, and alumnae, and to gather statistics and information about the climate for women in engineering in SEAS, and externally.
Career Toolkit Workshops
Along with the W. Scott Amey Career Services Center, and the GW Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, the Center hosted a multi-part, interactive workshop series in Fall 2019 dedicated to demystifying the processes women engineers face as they search for internships or jobs after graduation. More workshops are planned for Spring 2020.
